Time Sert BIG-SERT 51457A M14x1.25x16.8MM Aluminum Taper Seat Insert

Normally Used In Racing Applications, Where Nitomethane is used as a fuel. Steel Inserts have a higher tensile strength than aluminum and that's why steel inserts are the preferred choice for vehicles except for racing applications. This is also offered to those who prefer to use aluminum due to the dislike metal heat expansion and contracting issues (although we have not seen any issues). It is made for spark plugs that have threads on the full length of the plug that sits in the insert.  *Note, requires the Time Sert 51484A setting ring tool to be used on setting tool or thread damage may occur when installing. 

Question - Why is there a chunk missing out of the side of the insert?

Answer - The piece missing is NOT a defect. Time-Sert calls this part of the insert the "socket with metal locking pin". It is an engineered locking design. Once the insert is installed with the driver, the locking pin is pushed out and locks the insert into place. This creates a "cam lock" which helps to insure the insert will NOT back out.
