WiseAutoTools.com © Summary: The Time Sert 7220 is an M12x1.5 head bolt thread repair kit for fixing pulled threads in many Honda and Acura v-6 engines. The 4800 is a universal head bolt kit that works on any car that uses the M12x1.5 head bolt size because it can be used at different depths. This is why the 4800 kit is a better purchase in our opinion. Recently, Jeep and all other Chrysler vehicles that use the notorious 3.6 has made the 4800 kit much more common than we thought it ever would be. Bad threads can cause leaky head gaskets because the heads won’t be bolted down securely and evenly enough to prevent leakage from coolant, oil and compression etc. With aluminum blocks in today’s engines more prevalent than ever before; worn, stripped or otherwise damaged threads for the headbolts is a very common problem. So what’s the best repair? Replace the cylinder block at great expense only will result in having the same weak aluminum threads again. So making them stronger than original is the best approach.

Time Sert is an American company which produces the best thread repair kits available and they are right here in the USA. I know it’s a crazy concept. Anyway, Time Sert uses a solid bushing type insert that is far superior to a any Helicoil which only uses a thin coil of wire. The Time Sert insert is also held in by not only high temperature oil resistant thread locker, but also from the expansion of the bottom of the insert during the installation process. The driver installation tool finishes cold rolling the threads and actually spreads or expands the bottom of the insert locking it into place. Below is a list of vehicles that uses M12x1.5mm head bolts. Notice that these are all V-6 engines. Honda 4 cylinder engines either have an M11x1.5 or sometimes even a 10mm size for their head bolts. Honda Civic Hybrids use an even smaller M9x1.25. The Big Sert kit is for when a Helicoil or some other competitive brand has failed and an over size kit is needed.
