Largest Spark Plug Thread Repair Kit for Foreign Cars - Triple Oversize Kit for Enlarged Holes
Wise Auto Tools: Spark plug thread failure is not exclusive to Ford vehicles, although Ford seems to have the highest number of issues with blown spark plugs or damaged spark plug threads for unknown reasons. However, import manufacturer's like Toyota, Nissan, or others can also experience recurring spark plug thread problems after a repair from a parts store, resulting in enlarged holes.
Fortunately, Time-Sert offers a solution for these problems as well. It's important to note that the Time-Sert 5700, designed specifically for Asian vehicles that use washer seat spark plugs, is a triple oversize spark plug thread repair kit with a relatively large outside diameter (20mm). This kit is capable of repairing holes up to .73" in size and provides an opportunity to fix a cylinder head that has experienced repeated spark plug blowouts. It uses two inserts in one hole, to achieve the largest OD but still accept the original M14x1.25 washer seat plug. However, a word of caution is necessary as there needs to be sufficient space to accommodate the larger outside diameter, as the valves may be located too close to the spark plug. In situations where the alternative is replacing the cylinder head, many individuals may opt to attempt the repair, as they have little to lose. It's worth mentioning that the kit itself is not inexpensive, which is a common thought, when considering this option. However, if I were in this situation, I might purchase five additional 51457 taper seat inserts, commonly used for the more prevalent Ford blowout issue. By including these inserts with the kit, the chances of reselling the kit after its use increase significantly. To clarify, as a car owner, I would utilize the kit for my specific application and then resell it on a platform like eBay. However, if I were a shop owner, my approach would differ. I would still acquire the extra Ford 51457 inserts but would keep the kit on hand since it's likely I would have future use for it.
Additionally, it's important to note that the 5678 add-on kit allows for the installation of the smaller insert on its own, without utilizing the larger triple oversize insert that comes with the 5600 or 5700 kit. The smaller kit, known as the Big Sert, should not be used in holes larger than .66". For holes larger than .66", the triple oversize kit can be used if there is enough material or space between the spark plug hole and the valves.
