DennisB WiseAutoTools.com © Summary: If removing a broken glow plug in a diesel engine, there’s a glowplug extraction tool which can be used over the fender without needing to remove the cylinder head. The kit can be found at wiseautotools.com and it’s kit number is B900-0199. The “how to” video showing exactly how the specialty tool kit is used is on our product listing. Delivery time is usually 2-3 days anywhere within the USA with faster shipping available.
The glow plug extraction set can be used on VW’s and Sprinters etc. This kit has been used in the UK for many years where they have been dealing with this problem more simply because they have more diesels on the road compared to the USA. As the video on our B900-0199 product listing shows, the kit includes tools to safely remove broken glow plugs without removing the head.
Since the repair is done right over the fender it saves time and money. There are taps included which are used to chase the threads for the glowplugs. The kit works the same regardless of the thread pitch. When the broken glow plug has been removed properly, the threads will not be damaged.
With that being said, if the threads are damaged by not drilling straight or for some other reason, we have Time Sert glow plug thread repair kits that can fix that too if needed. That’s also a repair that is done over the fender without removing the head. Meanwhile go to the Broken Glow Plug Remover product listing which has more pictures and the full “how to” video showing how the kit is used. If we can answer any questions call us at 800-734-8665.
