The Calvan 38900 Ford spark plug thread repair kit uses an oversize M14x1.25 taper seat spark plug insert (pn 389-100) with a large lip that'll work on the following 2-Valve SOHC vehicles 4.6, 5.4 and 6.8 Liter engines from 1992 up to 2003 and up to 2008 on some models see below. *Excludes 3V engines - see 39300. It works ideally for first time repairs or second time repairs on engines that have had a spark plug blow out or a larger hole made by a failed repair from a parts store kit like Save-A-Thread. Keep in mind the Calvan 38900 is not for DOHC engines or 3-V engines. If your vehicle is a 2001 or above it may have the "Romeo Ford Problem Head" with extra step material above the spark plug hole. Using the 38900 kit on a 2001 & up Romeo style head may allow the spark plug to be positioned a little higher than normal which might cause a problem. We say "might" because Horizon Tools (which makes Calvan) does not provide any information on this one way or another. Their product description just says it fits from 96-2003. The Calvan kit obviously fits more than 96-03 because in cross referencing the application of cylinder heads (see below), we see that the range is much broader. For each engine size's listed below you can see what vehicles can use the same cylinder heads with one exception. "Windsor" or "Romeo" style heads each are slightly different. Look for casting #'s RF-1L2E or RF-2C5E for Cobras, which signify Romeo heads. Again, on 2001 and up Romeo heads the spark plug may sit a little higher. We've never heard of this causing a problem, but it's best to be aware.
